St. Petersburg has lost the right to host the Champions League final of 2021/22. The UEFA Executive Committee moved the match from the Gazprom Arena to the Stade de France in Paris. The game will take place as planned on May 28, according to the official UEFA website.

UEFA highlighted the role of French President Emmanuel Macron in the negotiation process to move the final to the capital of that country.

In addition, during the meeting it was decided that the Russian and Ukrainian clubs and national teams playing in European competitions will hold home matches on neutral ground. This provision introduced for an indefinite period.

It should be noted that only Spartak Moscow remains among the Russian clubs in this season’s European competitions. Red-Whites face Leipzig in the Europa League 1/8 finals.

The reason for the special UEFA meeting is the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
