Finnish side Jokerit has suspended its performance in the KHL, according to the league’s official website.
The management of the Finnish club has decided that it is not going to participate in the playoffs of the Gagarin Cup, due to the military actions of the Russian army on the territory of Ukraine.
The Continental Hockey League said that the decision on the pairings of the first round of the playoffs will be made later. Jokerit finished third in the KHL Western Conference and was scheduled to face Spartak, which finished sixth, in the first round.
A playoff berth for Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod, which finished the regular season ranked ninth in the West, is also a possibility.
KHL President Alexei Morozov expressed regret that the loss of Jokerit was due to political reasons.
